I’ve found some of the coolest model kits to satisfy your boredom AND stir up tons of nostalgia (and bring out your inner NERD).

Snap-Together Model Kits
Darth Vader 1/12 Scale Model
People swear by Bandai model kits and this Darth Vader kit is no exception. The directions are easy to follow (though they’re in Japanese – they have tons of pictures).
The pieces fit together nicely and the final product is, as expected, display quality. There are some small decals that can be challenging, so a good model kit with tweezers is definitely recommended.
Stormtrooper 1/12 Scale Model
This is one of Bandai’s most popular Star Wars figures. The level of quality and detail is unmatched.
The process of building the model is fun, easy, and the final result is very impressive.
If you’ve never built a model kit like this before, I highly recommend picking up a tool kit like this one so you can easily cut the sprues and smooth any rough edges.
Boba Fett 1/12 Scale Model Kit
This is a great model to build. It is basically a “Snap-Tite” model meaning you shouldn’t need any glue. It has an incredible level of detail and the parts fit together amazingly well.
It does come in colored plastic, but if you want to get the full, highly realistic look, be prepared to do some painting. While you can pose the figure, it is designed to be a display model and not intended for children.
Millennium Falcon 1/144 Scale Model Kit
The detail on this model is incredible even if you choose not to paint any of it. As is expected with Bandai models, this one snaps together nicely, but you can always add a little glue to add some extra durability.
The kit contains about 100-pieces and when built, measures approximately 11 inches long x 7-1/2 inches wide.
Lego Model Kits
LEGO Star Wars Stormtrooper Helmet
This 647 piece Lego set is designed for an adult because of its complexity, but would also make a fun project for a parent and child. The finished model measures 7 inches tall x 5 inches wide x 5 inches deep.
It’s not often you find anything online with the kind of reviews this one manages to pull in. Just check the reviews on Amazon for yourself!
The Child “Baby Yoda”
This adorable Baby Yoda model captures all the features of this popular little Star Wars character. It’s 1,073 pieces included a posable head, moving ears, and an adjustable mouth.
Measuring 7.5 inches tall x 8.5 inches wide x 5 inches deep, it’s just the right size to make a big impact yet small enough as to not overtake your display.
The Rise of Skywalker Millennium Falcon
Not only does this 1,351 piece set include the pieces to create the iconic Millennium Falcon, but it also includes 7 Star Wars characters: Finn, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, C-3PO, Boolio, D-O, and BB-8.
Once complete, the model measures 5 inches tall x 17 inches long x 12 inches deep.
The Rise of Skywalker Resistance A-Wing Starfighter
With only 269 pieces, this is the easier Lego model on the list and is suitable for kids 7+ (and adults that simply can’t resist).
This starship model is equipped with an opening cockpit, retractable landing gear and wingtip cannons, and battle-ready spring-loaded shooters. Watch out!
Wooden Star Wars Model Kits
Imperial Walker AT-ACT Wood Model Figure Kit
Unpainted or painted, this model of the iconic Imperial Walker is the perfect addition to any Star Wars collection. They’re not giant (4.75″ x 1.5″ x 4.25″), what they lack in size they make up for in detail.
This model is great for kids & adults – just be careful of small pieces.
The included book is filled with info on the AT-ACT’s design and capabilities. It also includes diagrams and schematics showcasing the various parts and their purpose.
BB-8 Wooded Model Figure Kit
Who doesn’t love BB-8?! This little droid model has 85 pieces and is labeled with an Advanced skill level (but can be a fun parent/child project). It is on the smaller size, measuring 2″w x 3″h once complete.
As with most of the wood models in this series, the BB-8 kit does come with a 32-page book, filled with images and info explaining his capabilities and role in the Resistance. The pieces do fit together snuggly, but you can definitely paint and glue as you see fit!
Star Wars Resistance Bomber Wood Model Kit
Now, if you’re going to paint any of these wooden models I’ve shared…this might be the one. Just look at that picture! The kit contains 60 pieces and is designed for kids 12+ (unless being supervised by an adult).
Once you’ve assembled it, this free-standing models measures in at 4.75″ x 2.4″ x 3.6″.
Preparing to Build Your Models
While most of the models included here (especially the Lego kits) are designed to be built without the need for glue, it might be a good idea to have some on hand. One of the best glues out there is a simple Cyanoacrylate (CA) glue like this one. It holds strong, works on almost any material, and dries quickly.
Another thing you’ll want to consider (heck, just get one if you don’t have one already) is a nice tool kit, specifically designed for model building. One like this one is relatively inexpensive and comes highly-rated on Amazon.
