QIDI Tech 3D Printers: Detailed Reviews of the Best Options

When I was shopping around for a QIDI 3D printer, I was focused on three things: quality, functionality, and ease of use.

In the hours I spent checking out different models and chatting with friends who actually have the models I was interested in, I learned which ones met my criteria and would perform as expected for the long term.

To save you time, I compiled my findings here. Right of the bat, I’d say the QIDI Tech X-MAX is the best choice.

It’s technologically advanced and versatile but easy to figure out. Great reliability, superb quality, and excellent customer support. What more could you want?

The best feature of the QIDI Tech X-MAX is its reliability.

Even with a heavy workload, the printer can endure and keep producing much longer than other printers on the market.

Some people have used the printer for 20+ hours a day for over a month with no hardware or software glitches.

Holding a level surface is also a common problem for 3D printers, but this one holds its level well and prints on an even plane.

The software that comes with the X-MAX is reliable and gets the job done. There are also have excellent customer support options.

This printer also has easy-to-use, clean build plates and a large touchscreen. It’s one of the most affordable 3D printers of this size.

The print quality is amazing.

When putting it through a printer torture test (a challenging print designed to test the printer’s limits), it did a fantastic job, even perfectly modeling an 80° overhang.

However, there are some drawbacks to this machine.

One of the main concerns is the plastic spool. One of the pieces (the filament plastic) can slip off during big prints.

Big prints can be a problem also because of the flexible cable catching on the build rods.

If you’re printing larger projects with this machine, I recommend watching all the moving parts closely at first to make sure nothing is tangled or interfering with the print.

The fastest speed on this printer is 50 millimeters per hour, and it does its best work at a more moderate rate.

Other printers of this size can easily reach 100 mm/h, so if you have several jobs to do, this might not be the best product for you.

Pros:

Cons:

  • Parts may tangle on big projects.
  • Prints at a relatively low speed.

The QIDI Tech X-Plus is incredibly easy to set up. After removing it from the box, all you have to do is perform a quick level check, and you are ready to print.

It also comes with a USB stick with print testing files so you can make sure all the specifications are correct before you begin your project.

A small toolkit comes with the printer, which will assist in any maintenance or setup needs.

It’s also well ventilated. It has a very quiet cooling and extraction fan, and the sides, top, and front door can be removed (and easily reattached with magnets) for maximum ventilation.

QIDI is a company that cares about its customers.

The machines come with a 12-month warranty and also the option to have an extra, higher-temperature extruder sent after purchase for more complex filament prints – free of charge

This extra extruder comes in handy if you print with multiple filaments and can also serve as a replacement if the original breaks.

To get the additional extruder, you only need to send QIDI an email with your order number, and they’ll send it right away.

It will take a little extra effort to get this printer level because it has no auto-leveling feature. You will have to adjust it using the knobs on the bottom of the machine.

It’s also difficult to see the first layer of a print from any angle.

Pros:

  • Easy setup.
  • Small toolkit provided.
  • Extra extruder will be sent free of charge.
  • 12-month warranty.
  • Quiet extractor fan.
  • Low noise when printing.
  • Possible to remove side panels, door, and top.

Cons:

  • No auto-leveling.
  • Can’t see first layers when a print first starts.

QIDI TECH X-Maker 3D Printer

Size: 20.5 x 20 x 19.75 inches

Weight: 47 pounds

The QIDI Tech X-Maker might seem like the most portable 3D printer of all time due to the luggage handle that pops out the back.

However, this luggage handle is an additional spool holder for filaments. It also has a removable heatbed.

The style of heatbed is quickly becoming the industry standard because it makes it easier to remove prints from inside the machine.

Just make sure you let it cool down before you take it out.

For ABS printing (a filament that needs to be printed at a very high temperature), the printer has an attachable hood to trap more heat inside.

This will give you the extra degrees you need for quality prints with this material.

There is also a camera for monitoring a print from far away.

If you have a long print and something else to do, you can watch the printers progress by tuning in to this camera’s feed.

A power-loss recovery system will allow you to resume a project where you left off if a power loss occurs.

This printer was intended for educational purposes.

The slicing software (where you model your prints) has a simplified version with an aquatic theme for teaching children about 3D printing.

The main problem with this printer is its ribbon cable. The cable crosses many moving parts during a print and can get easily tangled.

Pros:

  • Luggage handle for spool holding.
  • Removable heat bed.
  • Hood for ABS printing.
  • 2 millimeter folded and sheet steel bed cancels vibrations.
  • Power loss recovery.
  • Camera for remote monitoring.
  • Child-friendly option for educational purposes.

Cons:

  • Small Print Volume.
  • Ribbon cable path crosses many moving parts.
  • Extraction fans not great at fume reduction.

Unlike the other QIDI Tech 3D printers on this list that work with filaments, the QIDI Tech Shadow prints resin.

Resin can get really great details on models, and it’s why prints that come from the Shadow have such high quality.

The price of the Shadow is also very affordable compared to other printers of this size, design, and print type.

It is around the same price as the Elegoo, AnyCubic, and Epax counterparts.

Due to its small size, this is an excellent starting printer for anyone who wants to learn about and experiment with 3D printing.

Another thing that makes the Shadow stand out is its removable cover.

Many 3D printers of this size and variety will only have a door that gives limited access to the machine and its components.

The Shadow’s red hood fully covers the device, and when removed you will have full access to all its parts.

The problem with resin printing is that it can leave a lot of dangerous chemicals in the air.

However, the fans in the back of the shadow do a great job at extracting those chemicals.

Pros:

  • Includes resin.
  • Great detail in models.
  • Comparable price.
  • Fully removable cover.

Cons:

  • Resin printing causes harmful fumes.
  • Used only for small prints.

What Type of Filament Is Best for the Qidi Tech X-Pro?

PLA is the best filament, according to most people. It extrudes at a reasonable temperature (190℃ – 230℃ or 374℉ – 446℉) and does not require a heated printing bed.

Wrapping It Up

Really, any of the above QIDI Tech printers are a great choice for home use and you’ll be able to print out fantastic creations with ease.

However, if quality, versatility, and state-of-the-art technology are important to you, you won’t go be disappointed with the X-MAX.

With a large print bed, 5-inch touchscreen, and the ability to print both standard and more advanced material, like nylon, you won’t be limited in your prints.

It may not be the cheapest option out there, but if you’re going to invest in a high-tech machine that can grow with you and print amazing pieces of the finest quality, cheap shouldn’t rank high on your list anyway.
