(2024) Anycubic Chiron Review – The Perfect Printer for You?

As a great many designers, manufacturers, product developers, construction engineers, architects, and artists will tell you, 3D printing is the future of several fundamentally important industries.

In the age of technological progress, 3D printing technology is increasingly becoming available and accessible to more and more people.

However, most 3D printers manufactured today still remain largely unaffordable and impractical for home use, leaving too many professional and hobbyist creatives at a loss.

If only there were a 3D printer available on the market that was large and efficient enough for commercial use, yet affordable and easy to use at the same time!

Well, the good news is that there is thanks to Shenzhen-based 3D printing company, Anycubic.

The Anycubic Chiron 3D Printer is one of Anycubic’s latest releases and one that has revolutionized 3D printing for many customers owing to its larger build, high speed, precision, and advanced settings.

But despite its comparatively affordable price, is the Anycubic Chiron really worth the money?

In this article, I’ll be reviewing the Anycubic Chiron 3D Printer in detail, starting with some background on the company and moving on to discuss the main and additional features of the printer itself.

About Anycubic

Anycubic, as already mentioned, is based in Shenzhen, China. The company was founded relatively recently, in 2015, by childhood friends Lu Ouyang and James Ouyang.

The co-founders were inspired by increasing printing demands and their own curiosity surrounding the possibilities of 3D printing to set up their own 3D-printing business.

Since being set up, Anycubic has quickly risen through the ranks of 3D-printing brands worldwide with many of the company’s products being featured in reviews of best affordable 3D printers.

With this promising information in mind, let’s have a look at Anycubic’s Chiron model!

The Anycubic Chiron was first released in the summer of 2018 and re-released towards the end of the season after some initial teething issues.

The version of the Anycubic Chiron available on the market today is one that has been adapted according to customer feedback, and a majority of satisfied customers speak to the result.

So, what exciting features and functions does the Anycubic Chiron bring to the table?

Main Features

Large Build

The first thing to mention about the Anycubic Chiron is that it’s big – as in, really big compared to your average 3D printer.

Measuring 400 x 400 x 450 millimeters, the Anycubic Chiron is significantly larger in size than even most high-end 3D printers, which tend to average around 150 x 150 x 250 millimeters.

Now, of course, such a large (and heavy) build means that it won’t be easily portable.

This probably isn’t the 3D-printing device for you if you’re looking for something you can comfortably travel with or transport to and from work – not that we’d recommend doing this with such expensive technology.

However, the extra-large size of the Anycubic Chiron comes with one equally huge benefit: a very generous build platform that allows for the creation of 3D-printed models larger than 90% of competitor printers can produce!

This is a major advantage of the Anycubic Chiron over the majority of 3D printers on the market.

Durable Construction

The build of the Anycubic Chiron is as durable as it is large, with a tough and wear-resistant, all-metal construction.

Another component that contributes to the overall durability of this 3D printer is the Ultrabase printing platform, which is made of strong aluminum and covered with a composite coating.

This coating protects not only the platform itself but also your creations.

This is because the composite coating is adhesive and keeps models firmly in place during printing to prevent warping or splitting.

The durability of the Anycubic Chiron is one of the most important factors of its construction – and indeed, the construction of any 3D printer.

Even at affordable prices like that of the Anycubic Chiron, these machines are expensive pieces of equipment, so the durability of the metal frame and the Ultrabase is a reassuring sign.

Touch Screen Controls

Size and durability are both important factors in 3D-printer construction, but these features alone aren’t enough to make a really great printing device.

A 3D printer should also be ergonomic and intuitive to use so that hobbyists and professionals of all abilities can get the most out of the printing technology.

Luckily, the Anycubic Chiron also shines in this area thanks to its intuitive touch-screen display through which settings can be selected and controlled with a single touch.

Previews of your model and the entire printing process are also available to view through this function, allowing you full insight into and control over your creation!

Multi-Material Compatibility

Just one more of the many things that make the Anycubic Chiron stand out from much of the competition is the fact that this 3D printer supports the use of several different materials.

Using the Anycubic Chiron, you can print 3D models made of ABS, HIPS, PETG, TPU, PLA, and wood.

This versatility in terms of material is really important because it allows for design flexibility and a greater level of creative authority and expression than printer models that only work with one or two materials.

In cases where models created with this printer are prototypes of larger products or projects, the ability to make the model out of a choice of several materials means that you’ll be able to get a better idea of what the finished product will actually look like.

Accurate Printing

Oftentimes, 3D printers make minor (and sometimes not-so-minor) sacrifices in terms of precision to enable the creation of bigger models.

This is because nozzle sizes typically don’t allow for especially tall layers to be created without accuracy or structural issues, such as irregularities or layer splitting.

However, the Anycubic Chiron changes the game in this respect with its multiple precision technologies that help the printer to maintain accuracy even at unusual heights.

The main feature of the Anycubic Chiron that helps to improve tall-layer accuracy is the high-precision 0.4-millimeter nozzle, which doesn’t weigh down the X-axis and compromise accuracy like some other nozzle types.

Auxiliary Leveling

Leveling the printing bed on a 3D printer can be a tricky and time-consuming task, which is why most users prefer to have this process done automatically.

In the case of the Anycubic Chiron, semi-automatic auxiliary leveling is used.

The auto-leveling module is capable of detecting 25 individual points and automatically compensating for factors, such as nozzle height, to ensure accuracy.

Additionally, if the machine is turned off during use for whatever reason, it will resume printing at the last recorded position after being turned back on so you can pick up right where you left off!

Although the auxiliary leveling of the Anycubic Chiron is, in theory, and in most cases, effective and convenient, some customers have reported frustration due to the fact that it still needs to be manually adjusted before the automatic part of the leveling process can take place.

Some users feel that this takes away from the printer’s level of automation and slows down the process.

A few customers have also reported that the automatic part of the leveling procedure has not worked on their machine.

High-Performance Extruder

One of the most impressive yet understated features of the Anycubic Chiron is its high-performance extruder.

The reason this extruder is such a valuable addition to the Anycubic Chiron is that it feeds out consistent quantities of filament very smoothly and regularly.

Not only does this make for easy, uninterrupted, and ergonomic use, but it also contributes to the accuracy of the printing, which was touched on earlier.

This is because a smooth supply of melted filament reduces the potential for bumps and blobs of filament ruining your prototype or model.

Ultimately, you’ll love how easy, satisfying, and quality-enhancing this extruder is to work with; it’s yet another good reason to invest in this 3D printer!

Accessories and Tools

Although customer opinions of the Anycubic Chiron do vary, one point that most reviewers can agree on is that this printer is surprisingly easy to assemble and set up.

This is partly due to the extensive range of tools and accessories that come with the purchase of the printer itself.

Along with the main components of the Anycubic Chiron, you’ll receive a tool kit along with pliers, instructions, and the required nuts and bolts for assembly.

This means that you can set up your brand new Anycubic Chiron in no time at all without the fuss of having to make extra purchases.

But that’s not all! Also included in the box are a power cord, data cable, scraper, filament of a random color, a card reader, and an after-sale service card.

So everything you need in terms of basic printing and shaping, connectivity, and contact is provided.

Regardless of your experience, ability, or area of creative work, you’ll easily be able to set up the Anycubic Chiron and, thanks to the included accessories, get started on your project straight away!

My only reservations about this 3D printer concern the reported defects in quality and functionality reported by some customers after purchase, especially surrounding the semi-automatic leveling function.

If you know that you absolutely can’t afford to spend time waiting for a replacement in the unlikely, but possible, event of a functional defect, you may not want to take that risk.

Similarly, as mentioned before, if you’re looking for a 3D printer that’s easy to transport from location to location, the Anycubic Chiron may not be right for you.

Otherwise though, the Anycubic Chiron is certainly one of the best budget 3D-printing models on the market currently and I’m excited to see what direction this company’s products take in the future!
